Daryl VanderWilt

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Daryl VanderWilt, Ph.D. - Project Director

Daryl has 35 years of experience in the fields of community college, rural healthcare and business development management. He is a native of Eddyville. His doctorate from the University of Iowa in leadership and policy studies prompted additional training in federal government agency liaison in Washington, D.C. and Kansas City, Mo. and private fundraising at The Foundation Center in New York City. His work at Des Moines Area Community College and Mercy Medical Center Foundation/ Southern Iowa Rural Healthcare Network, prompted new growth in area nonprofit board/CEO leadership, strategic planning, community engagement, fundraising and contemporary evaluation processes. As Executive Director of the Iowa Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives he has, within the past 5 years, led staff in attracting nearly $2M in grant funding for major projects designed to assist small Iowa nonprofit organizations gain greater capacity for serving the state’s most vulnerable citizens. Daryl and his wife, Suz, are avid travelers and most recently visited India, Pakistan, Tanzania and its territory Zanzibar. While in Tanzania he threatened to scale the 19,000 foot heights of Mt. Kilimanjaro, but his lemonade froze the first night out forcing bitter retreat. Things are much better now.
 

 

Lance Scanlan - Project Manager

Lance is a graduate of the University of Minnesota in Public Administration. His career and life experiences have included food industry leadership in Iowa and throughout the Midwest, small business consulting, and classroom instructor in entrepreneurial business development. He has been a board member of several nonprofit faith-based and community organizations, and was a collaborator with Iowa State University in an eight-year revisionary project funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. He has past experience in nonprofit capacity building projects in southern Iowa.

 

Greg Saboe - Project Manager

Greg is a graduate of the University of Iowa and has extensive experience in business within southern Iowa, as trainer within the state’s Small Business Development Center system, instructor at Des Moines Area Community College, and consultant to businesses and nonprofits through Strategies Plus, Inc. His work with nonprofits has centered on youth and adult camp ministry along with consulting of start-up and existing daycare centers. He also has past experience in nonprofit capacity building in southern Iowa. 

 

 

 

 

Craig Morkert - Project Manager 

Craig holds a B.A. degree from Drake University and an MA in Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois. He is a native of Knoxville and has farming interests in Iowa. His 30 year career in human resource management at Union Carbide and Dow Chemical Corporations has included consulting projects in the areas of leadership development, performance management, training, and organization development. Most recently he has served as a trainer for the State of Iowa in support of the Governor’ state-wide diversity training initiative. Craig also volunteers his time and experience in facilitating a nonprofit career ministry support group that assists those who are unemployed or underemployed. An avid cyclist, Craig completed the 2009 RAGBRAI tour of southern Iowa communities this past July.

 

 

 

Jim Adams - Project Coordinator

Jim is a native of Appanoose County and a graduate of Indian Hills Community College in Centerville. He also has a degree in photography from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo. His career has included marketing and public relations in the nonprofit arena and as a writer, editor, and photographer in the newspaper and magazine industries. He has many years experience in leading career support groups and placement efforts through churches and private employment search firms. Jim has also participated in statewide IPTV programs with Iowa Workforce Development and community college personnel to encourage and enhance public/private support for those seeking employment.

 

Ron Brickey

 

 

 

Ron Brickey – Area 15 Project Coordinator

Ron has owned and managed an Ottumwa-based insurance agency for over 40 years.   He has a B.S. in Industrial Administration/Finance from Iowa State University.  His community involvement with nonprofit agencies has included Tenco Workshop, Inc., an organization that trains and finds employment for physically and mentally challenged individuals, American Home Finding Association that is dedicated to child foster care, adoptions and counseling services, and serves as a board member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ottumwa Regional Health Center, Ottumwa Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and Area Economic Development Corporation.  Ron has chaired SCORE, and most recently led in raising $20.5M to fund the Bridge View Center, a regional events and performing arts center.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Charlie Rump – Area 16 Project Coordinator

Charlie is a graduate of the University of Iowa in Business Management and has substantial experience in industry, business and community involvement within area 16. His education and career experiences have included professional practices involving procurement, negotiations, inventory control, high speed production supervision and team building, His work on high performance work teams resulted in major employer cost savings. Charlie’s community engagement has involved nonprofit fine arts organization board membership, and volunteer contributions for nonprofit organizations such as United Way, YMCA, area educational institutions, the Fort Madison Rodeo, area Bass Tournament, and various nonprofit fundraising ventures. He has been recognized for his personal impact on the positive quality of life in area 16. His hobbies include bicycling, photography, music appreciation, spectator sports and forestry.
